{Monday Music} Blunderbuss...

The studio is taking a break from the KLT assistant's recent favorite,  TMBG's  Here Comes Science (sorry kiddo) & moving on to something that will take me through a long nights work. Jack White's new Blunderbuss will work just fine thank you. Happy Music Monday! What are you listening to these days?

{studio update} recycled sweaters...

This week was super rainy here in the NW. I'm generally not one to let the weather bring me down - I grew up a northwest girl after all. But man - it's been down right dreary! So, I felt the need to make cozy, wool snuggly things in between filling orders. This of course comes from the major spring cleaning kick I've been on too.

Over the years I've sort of become a bit of a pack rat (to say the least). It's really hard to part with clothes in particular. Even if they don't fit, if I really like the texture, pattern, or color - I just can't seem to part. Well, I found a solution for that a while back & I started making sweater slug plush out of my old sweaters. I now have a new stack of sweaters to work with from my latest purge. These are some of my longtime favorites. It was hard to make the first cut, but I quickly got over it when my critters came to life. I even made a sleepy owl (that was seriously a self portrait that day).

I have to say, I enjoy making these cuddly plushies with sweaters that already have a story.  The plush section of the KLTworks Etsy shop is sure filling up! Not only did I have fun making these, but I had fun taking instagrams of them as well.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! What are your plans? Maybe there is some sun in my  future & I'll have to start working with cotton seersucker....

{OWL} First meeting...

The first time I held a baby was about 37 years ago - it was my brother Brian, & I was 4 years old. On the day he was born, I actually got my first pair of glasses (which is only just a side note but an important detail to me). I took my job as an older sister very seriously- I still do. I really enjoyed helping my mom take care of him. It was like having a real live doll &  I have fond memories cuddling with him.

At the end of February, my brother & his wife had their first baby. His name is Owen Walker Loffer (aka OWL). I was obviously excited for all of us, but particularly excited for Sayer. I couldn't wait for him to have a chance to hold his little cousin - he is exactly that same age that  I was when Brian was born. Sayer also takes the responsibility of being an older cousin seriously- we have chatted about it often. We took a little road trip this weekend to meet  Owen & Sayer finally got to hold him.

We all wore our owl tees & had our chance to hang out with the cozy OWL. It was a very cool day. I love this photo of my brother, son, & nephew - full circle. I think these guys will have lots of fun together in the years ahead.

So that is our big news. What did you do this weekend?

{music monday} cool illustration...

I was drawn to the illustration by Celeste Potter in this Sarah Blasko video first  - but find that all of it stuck with me.  Happy Music Monday!  I'm heading into the studio on this rainy Monday. What are you up to?

{La Petite Magazine} Sayer's Book Corner #10

My little guy has music in his heart & marches to his own drummer. When I heard about the book Symphony City by Amy Martin - it piqued my curiosity. The book description reads, "Symphony City is an exciting adventure story for children and parents who love music, art, and big imagination." Yep, that is us in a nutshell! So I bought it for Sayer after he went to the symphony with his grandma.

Each beautiful page of the book takes us on an adventure by following the sound of music all throughout the city. Let's take a little peek...

Symphony City reminds us that there is music & color everywhere - which is a message that I absolute love. As a complete bonus, the book jacket unfolds to a poster of the image that Sayer is looking at in the photo above (it's his favorite in the book along with the drummer). This book is a perfect fit for story time in our house.

* Oh & on a fashion note:
Along with loving music, Sayer really loves color too. Which is  why he likes to wear bright colors. His pants, tee, raincoat & socks are all from our favorite,  Polarn O. Pyret  (they have awesome sales - like right now).

Thanks for stopping by! Happy reading...

You can view Sayer's Book Corner at La Petite Magazine as well.

{Music Monday} Color...

I've been extra drawn to color lately- playing with my colored pencils on my worktable in between sewing (see instagram above). When I browsed Alix's colorful Friday link Hootenanny, I replayed this video a few times. I thought it would be a nice way to start the week. Happy Music Monday!
