{Fun Finds} For the new year...

I feel a like I'm jumping into the new year in slow motion. I have so many ideas swimming around in my brain but I need some time to sit & ponder a bit before I start in on anything new. Sometimes just letting my brain ebb & flow between creative thoughts is what I need. One of the things that I like doing to let me brain wander is create an Etsy Treasury. This time I started with these three cool items & went from there.

I got Sayer a smaller version of this Peg & Awl chalkboard & it's fantastic. With kiddo's love of pencils & drawing, I couldn't help but be drawn to these adorable & cozy scarfs from Sara Carr. I also really love these prints from Blanca Gomez & can easily envision them on our wall.

You can view this whole collection of loveliness live here.

Happy Monday!

{Fun} a new year...

When I saw these recycled letterpress paper chain kits by Something's Hiding In Here, I was immediately smitten with the packaging & the idea. It inspired me to make a "New Year" treasury of images, textures, & colors that I'm drawn to in 2012. Happy Chinese New Year - bring on the dragon!

{Fun Finds} It's looking a lot like... December.

So, today was that super hyped shopping day - Black Friday. While I know it's good for the economy, it's just not my thing to brave the crowds or big box stores for that matter. Instead of dealing with the long lines & craziness, I locked myself in the studio & worked on orders. It was nice actually- I was sort of oblivious to the hubbub going on outside. I did need to get my fix of looking at cool things though, so tonight I decided to make another treasury to celebrate small businesses. It's funny how these collections sort of put themselves together. I was particularly struck with texture, pattern, & color in this one- it's my December dream list of characters & props. Oh, & the number "36" isn't particularly significant. Sayer is just really into numbers lately & is counting all of the time & posting numbers all around the house. So that painting was for him. Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

{Everyday Inspiration} I love paper...

It's been a year since Cardboard Man was officially born. The wonderful, cardboard Halloween costume that my husband came up with last year really became his hutch studio uniform & Cardboard Man is really who he becomes in the studio. This treasury is all about my love of all things made with paper & dedicated to Chris on this weekend before Halloween. Hope you are enjoying spooky festivities & making cool things with paper this weekend!

{Fun} little cheerful...

While on vacation, I found myself mindlessly surfing Etsy one evening. I suppose out of habit more than anything. Warm, happy colors & characters were catching my eye & a few minutes later, Little Cheerful treasury was created. The vintage Humpty Dumpty fabric started it all.
You can view this treasury live here. Hope everyone's week is going well. Thought you may like a mid-week smile....

{Fun Finds} little girls...

I've been spending a great deal of time on Etsy lately & got a bit distracted last night as I was uploading things into the shop. It was really hutch studio's sweet room & The Measure's adorable petticoat that got me started on this vintage inspired, girly treasury.  It was a much needed break to think about who the little girl would be, that would occupy a room like that-  in her sweet petticoat & boots. Hope you had a nice weekend!

{Fun} mellow yellow...

Yellow is the color of the day here. I find that I really gravitate towards the happy hue. I needed to mellow out last night & I decided to create an Etsy treasury (making them is sort of how I go to my  "happy place"). So here you have it-  a summery yellow collection of things that caught my eye. Speaking of yellow... the sun is finally out here in the NW - so Sayer & I are going to go outside & enjoy it! Hope you have a nice weekend! What colors are you gravitating towards lately?

{Fun Finds} timo inspiration...

Those that know me or have followed this blog for awhile will not be surprised that I love the design line, Timo. You most likely also understand my interest in characters, textiles & drawing with thread (see my thread figures here). The Timo designs just really speak to me - ALL of them! When I saw the gentleman with a black hat, it pretty much inspired me to make an Etsy treasury right there on the spot. I pictured this gentleman as an artist- (specifically a writer) walking around in Paris on holiday, looking for inspiration for his next book. When I create Etsy treasuries it's usually when I need to be doing something else. It's a way for me to take a little break & creatively recharge. I like to pick images/products that help me tell a story....

This treasury is called "The Creative Process" & it's full of characters, places, & things that may be used when when in the creative bubble & possibly on a deadline. You can view it live here
Hope you are having a great weekend!

{Fun} Imagine & Wonder...

It's been a long time since I created an Etsy Treasury. I find that it really relaxes me to cruise through my favorite items & shops. So, I put together a group of things that I've adored for a little while. I find that all of these items inspire me in some form or another. How about you?

{Fabric Saturday} Drool worthy fabric + 5 winners...

I've been drooling over this collection of Scandinavian fabric at Hus & Hem ever since Louise (thirtyfive flowers) posted about it on her blog. I suppose that my many times cruising through this collection may have influenced my fabric choices a bit for this "Textile Love" Etsy treasury that I just made. I wanted to put together a small collection of textiles that are either vintage or hand screen printed because I'm particularly fond of both. It's just nice to have a documented list of some of my favorite patterns, colors, textile designers/printmakers & shops. You can view the treasury live here.
But wait... there's something else I want to say.... I have some winners to announce for the  5 Bundle Creative Competition! Again, I had to use a random method to choose the winners- this time helped me out.

And the 5 creative competitors are ::

1. Kari Firak  2. Ringmaster  3. Pop-i-cok  4. Heather  5. Amy Freeto
(& Carmel- the winner of the fabric stash giveaway- is invited to play of course too).

So, if you see your name, make sure I have your address so I can send you your bundle. You can email me at kristin{at}kltworks{dot}com. Can't wait to see what you all come up with. Remember, I will post pictures of of all 5 creations on the April 1st Fabric Friday post. Thanks to all of you who entered & shared your fabric stories. This isn't the end of my stash. There is more fun to had so stay tuned...
Happy weekend everyone!

{Everyday Inspiration} comfort palette...

I absolutely love color.  But I do find that there are colors that I gravitate towards more often than others. My paintbox, closet, & house are full of greens & blues. They seem to be my comfort colors. Maybe it's because my eyes are a combination of the two. I created another Etsy treasury of colors & images that feel comforting & happy to me.

You can view this Etsy Treasury live here. What are your comfort colors?

{Everyday Inspiration} dreaming of vintage...

{picture via hutch studio}
Chris has created beautiful interior spaces at hutch studio & visiting him there is always inspiring. Each room is filled lots of vintage finds and recycled, handmade creations. This room at hutch is called the "sweet room" and I'm always taking note of the way the shadows are cast, how the light fills the room, the textures, & the color palette. I made an Etsy treasury last night that reflects how I feel when I'm in that room & the colors that I see. These are items & images that may appear in my dreamworld....

You can view this Etsy Treasury live here.  Hope you are having a nice week!

{Fun} Modern Love...

One of my all time favorite images is Mother & Child by a designer on my top 5 list, Alexander Girard. I love the shapes, the palette, the style, & era in which it was created. I'm also a big fan of Valentines day- and the two fit together for me. So, I made an Etsy Treasury last night that was inspired by both. It's all about my love of modern design- past & present. I like looking at it so I  thought I would post it here...

{Vintage Fisher Price} Welcome to my studio Dr. Doodle...

Dr. Doodle was under the tree for me this year & he made my heart go all a flutter. I had spotted him at my favorite antique mall about a month ago and told Chris all about his wise ducky charm. I was just thrilled to see his eyes peaking up at me from inside my Christmas package. He appears to be a perfect studio companion - all eager to offer up inspiration & help remedy any creative conundrums I may find myself in.

This addition to my Fisher Price collection called for some re-organization. I decided that the FP toys that were made before 1970 would go in my studio. And the ones from the 1970's could stay in Sayer's room. This need for re-organization also came in part from the playmobil explosion in Sayer's room that came with Christmas.  So I cleaned off a spot for my collection of old friends in my studio - but they appeared to need another friend in the group to make a true collection.  So, I decided it was time to visit my many FP "favorites" on Etsy.

{jalopy photos via here}

I found this guy a long time ago- he was way at in the middle of my favorites and rather than buying him right away, I created a whole circus treasury around him. Thinking that filled the void, I went to bed. However, it didn't & I bought him the next afternoon- adding another cool circus find (an awesome vintage pop up book) in it's place. Can't wait to see this old jalopy in my studio. In my mindless Etsy cruisin' (in an attempt to relax) I did happen to stumble on a few more VERY tempting FP toys that I have been thinking about ever since. I will have to practice restraint for now- I sort of go on the whole toy fate thing. If it is truly meant to be... it will still be there when I'm ready.

What sort of things do you like to collect?

{Fun} Letters & Numbers...

It's September 1st and that means back to school for a lot of kids today. The bustle is in the air and it definitely feels like Fall. I put together a little Etsy Treasury that celebrates the first day of school & my love of typography- all about numbers & letters. Welcome September!

{Fun} Awesome Argyle...

There have been little hints of Autumn in the last week which makes me think of argyle. Argyle sweaters and socks bring up memories of going back to school shopping with my mom and grandma. I have always been drawn to the argyle pattern in its various forms and you can see proof of that in my closet & fabric collection. I recently found some fun fabric and made an argyle Ollie Owl all set for the upcoming season. When sewing my owl plush, I thought it would be interesting to create another Etsy Treasury that highlights the awesome diamond pattern. Do you have any favorite argyle in your closet?

{Fun} All about glasses...

You may remember the post I wrote awhile back about glasses. I had just made a glasses wearing Ollie Owl and was reminiscing about wearing glasses since I was 4 years old. It became clear to me after writing the post, that even though I felt alone in my glasses wearing trials & tribulations over the years, that I most certainly was not. From the responses that I received, I am now aware that there seems to be a large group of us out there in the world. - A special group at that. We are the kind of people that smile and compliment a small child that is wearing glasses any time we see one. You know who you are...I created this  Etsy treasury is for you.

{Fun} Summertime inspiration...

It really felt like summer here today. While I watched Sayer play in the backyard, I plopped myself under a tree and created my first Etsy treasury. Summertime was my inspiration and I had a blast finding things that reminded me of  a nice, simple, summer day. Because it was my first attempt at a treasury, I thought that I should document it on my virtual sketchbook. Enjoy!
