Last week I read a blog post that started me on a research tangent that was quite fun. Thanks to my blog friend Carmel, I now know who Tove Jansson is. I really enjoyed reading about her and hope to a research a little more. Here is a quick description from the Moomin website for those that don't know who she is.
Tove Marika Jansson 1914-2001
A Swedish-speaking Finn who enjoyed a diverse career as an author, painter, graphic artist, caricaturist and comic strip artist. She was the creator of the much-loved Moomin books.

I admit that I was unaware of what Moomin was, but now I do & am a little smitten with the comic strip, the woman who drew it, & the fabric that came from it...
I know I would've eventually learned about Moomin through my never ending quest for Marimekko fabric & love of Finnish design. I've seen some of these images and been intrigued before. So, I'm glad my introduction was from Carmel's blog. (She was also the woman who tipped me off on the vintage Marimekko Bo Boo comforter I bought for Sayer recently). I was excited when I found a Moomin textile shop (that specializes in vintage Moomin) on Etsy called Tillukka. All of these fabrics & photos are from this shop as well. What do you think? Are you a Moomin fan? Happy first Fabric Friday of 2011!
I could hug you sometimes.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a creative nut that I feel very humble that you snatch up my silly whims and take them on board with such sincerity and incorporate them into your great collection of thoughts. And I have to thank Lilli from Trollringenblog for the intro to Moomin!
(I was actually toying with buying some of that fabric and sewing together a doona cover for Martha ... it's quite well priced.)
thanks for sharing!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh I was this close to buying the duvet covers a few days ago. But then my eldest vetoed the plan. I LOVE the moomin bedding myself. I was looking at a couple of sites.
ReplyDeleteAt first glance, I thought that was *you* in the first image. Well, it could be you! Great post on Moomin, so cute. I would love to see Sayer's comforter now. Any chance the rest of us can read that post? As the blog is private.. Hm, I wonder what Moomin fabric you'll choose for a klt project?? Thanks for introducing the rest of us to those great etsy sites!
ReplyDelete@carmel- You just made me belly laugh with that comment! Which fabric were you looking at?
ReplyDelete@Heather- Your welcome- thought you might like it.
@Jacqui- Oh, I haven't seen the bedding yet. :)
@Chantale- I know - weirdly at first glance this afternoon, I thought it was me too. :) I'll post a picture of Sayer room soon - An updated toddler room. The comforter is a twin so it's folded over a few time on his little toddler bed. He loves it! I don't know which one I'd choose yet. :) As far as Carmel's blog. It just went private a few days ago. I didn't know if that post would show up or not. She is the first comment - Make Mine Mid-century- you could email her. I just wanted to give her credit- but didn't mean to give an empty link. Sorry about that.
Just a quick note too- I just dropped by the Etsy shop and there have been tons of new Moomin listings since I wrote this post.... like about 17 or so. Check it out... :)
I too thought it was you ... first glance. you're my to cool buddy ... I feel hipper just knowing you ... Always a pleasure, Have a lovely weekend!
