* Sayer has decided to dress up as the same thing as last year (even though we made him a Fantastic Mr. Fox (ASH) costume. So, I'll share last year's Halloween Music Monday post too - because he will be rockin' it again.

{Everyday Inspiration} I love paper...

It's been a year since Cardboard Man was officially born. The wonderful, cardboard Halloween costume that my husband came up with last year really became his hutch studio uniform & Cardboard Man is really who he becomes in the studio. This treasury is all about my love of all things made with paper & dedicated to Chris on this weekend before Halloween. {Real Life} New bag for kiddo...

As you may remember, Sayer started pre-school last month & he's growing before my very eyes- becoming more & more independent by the day. At school, they have hooks for their coats & bags- so we have been on the lookout for a cool bag that is a perfect fit. We are also officially putting away the old diaper bag that has been toting his treasures on his day trips to grandma's house.

What you might find in his bag when he goes to his grandparent's house is a cd, video, book, his gunks or a truck & some people, & a change of clothes (in case of an accident of the potty or mud puddle type). For school he usually has a change of clothes (& sometimes a cd or gunks) & totes home his art projects. It seemed like perfect timing when Jennifer of Ellie Bellie Kids had a little (product tester) bag giveaway. Sayer & I threw our names into the draw & luck was on our side. The bag arrived this week & Sayer has taken it both to his grandparent's house & to school. It really is a wonderful size- fits everything just right without being too bulky. There is side elastic that was originally designed to hold a yoga mat, but for Sayer, it holds two slugs/gunks perfectly - while the 3rd fits in the bag  (his 3 slugs don't ever get separated).

See how nicely his unique bag fits on his hook at pre-school? The robot bag has become a favorite & we both give it two thumbs up. It's sturdy, modern, efficient, & cool! What more could you want in a bag? I'm sure that it will go on many adventures. 

Thanks Ellie Bellie Kids! I know Sayer really appreciated the opportunity to test out this bag. He particularly enjoys having a special spot for his gunk buddies to ride with him on his daily journey.

{Music Monday} Love Love Love...paper animation

I discovered the New Zealand band, Avalanche City, because of my love of (paper) stop motion animation. I'm quite taken with this video- but it's a catchy tune too. Another discovery from this band is Hunter & Gatherer who did  artwork for the band's album, Our New Life Above the Ground- check out their cool Etsy Shop here. Art & music.... a lovely way to start the week. Happy Music Monday! 

{Inspiration} Mary Blair...

Mary Blair's art has inspired me for a really long time, but I didn't always know it. Whether it was through my Golden Books that she had illustrated or Disney's,  Alice in Wonderland, I was aware of her illustrations & way with color at an early age. 

It was visiting Disneyland as a 4th grader & getting to see, It's a Small World  that made the biggest impact me artistically though. This is actually a photo that I recently found - I had taken it on one of my Disneyland visits as a kid (I only went a few times). I'm not really sure what year- but in the 80's. It's a Small World really knocked my socks off & I often thought about how I could try to reconstruct it (while listening to the Disney record of course). 

As an adult I still enjoy her illustrations & creative vision- along with appreciating It's a Small World even more. Happy 100th Birthday Mary Blair!

{Shop Update} The Snowy Owl...

Winter at klt:works means snowy owls & hoodies. So I was really excited about getting this salt & peppy snowy owl hoodie printed in time for the cozy weather. For this screen printing job (along with more owl cardigans), I worked with a local screen printing studio called Innate. Their creative energy was a perfect fit.

Of course, a new hoodie added to the klt:mix meant that Sayer needed to test it out - with me camera ready. So we headed out for the afternoon to explore the cool nooks & crannies of our downtown. 

Now the klt:shop is all stocked up for the winter with cozy shades of grey & oodles of owls.

{Music Monday} 2 Cousins...

When I saw this video on the Handmade Romance FB page Thursday, it made me smile. So much so, that I knew that I had to pass it on.  It was a rather appropriate find as we've been talking a lot about cousins at our house.  Sayer is going to have a new cousin (one that will be in this state - rather than across country) sometime in February & we are all VERY excited. I've been going through old pictures lately & found this one of me, my little brother, & my two favorite cousins (who also have February birthdays). I really don't think I need to tell you which one I am, do I? If you have any doubts, just look at Sayer's picture & you will know right away. In this picture, I'm very close to the age Sayer will be when his cousin is expected to arrive- they will have about the same years apart as my brother & I do (4yrs). We all look forward to the day that Sayer will have a cousin to dance with too! Happy Music Monday!
